Inside Diane Keaton's Rustic Home
The House that Pinterest (and Diane) Built.
Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton isn’t your typical property developer; however, in recent years she has spent the majority of her free time on building sites overseeing various housing projects.
Back in November, Diane gave the readers of Wine Spectator a tour around her 8,000 square-foot LA Farmhouse. This rustic dream house took three and a half years to build from the ground up and is the subject of her book The House that Pinterest Built.

Like all of us, when looking to design her new home Diane took to Pinterest for inspiration, this book is the product of her research. She would share pin boards with her team while designing the property, in doing so she was able to discuss her ideas and show them exactly what it was she wanted to emulate in her home.
From just a look at the first images, it is clear that her house is a Pinterest user’s dream; the contrast of natural and rustic-industrial materials showcases Diane’s creativity and understanding of design do’s and don’ts. Exposed wooden beams, distressed brickwork and countless antiques are found throughout the house, creating a natural, monochromatic colour scheme.

We are in love with the black French doors - used here as a shower enclosure - which act as the prefect contrast to the white fixtures in the rest of the room. Despite being devoted to her favourite black and white colour scheme, the texture of brick soon grew on her until she eventually had the ones you see here shipped across from Chicago.

With its distinctly industrial feel and neutral colour palette, this house could feel extremely cold and uninviting; however, Diane’s love of flea markets and antiques brings a warm, vintage element, creating a feeling of comfort and familiarity. An Academy Award, a dream house in the Los Angeles’ Sullivan Canyon and a red wine named after her – “The Keaton Red” – if that isn’t the stuff of icons we don’t know what is.
