How will Interiors Change Post Pandemic?

Having spent much more time at home over the past few months, we’ve become increasingly aware of how our interior spaces have affected our ability to work from home, home school, relax and dine. Our habits have been forced to adjust and our routines are different to what we’ve been used to. So we’ve decided to take a look at how we feel interior spaces may change in response to the pandemic.

Cleanliness Will Become a Priority

Hygiene is definitely at the forefront of everyone’s minds. We expect cupboards to be modified to ensure thorough cleaning is possible, with space to store everything from brooms to sponges. We also expect materials with anti-bacterial and superior hygienic qualities to be used within kitchens and bathrooms. Solid surface brand, Staron is a great choice as its unique structure is non-porous and its complete flexibility means no joins are needed. This prevents germs from growing in any cracks and cervices and therefore offers a superior choice when it comes to hygiene.

Make Room for a boot room

A boot room is a great place for people to remove and store outdoor clothes and shoes, to ensure any additional garments that could carry germs are prevented from entering the home.

Beautiful Basins

Beautiful basins have been around for some time now, however we expect to see a rise in popularity in cool and unique designs with everyone having to wash their hands whenever entering a home. So we think, rather than washing hands in a boring old sink, make it a fun and pleasurable experience by choosing a funky colour, a bold pattern or a beautiful hand-painted porcelain masterpiece to make the experience much more enjoyable!

Integrated Home Offices

With so many people now working from home for the foreseeable future and with many Londoners set to leave for a balance between city and country living, we expect to see more office spaces integrated into the home. From dedicated office sheds and studies and multi-functional kitchen island set ups, there’ll be a variety of ideas to suit each individual and their working style.

Passion for the Pantry

One of our favourite things to come out of lockdown is the rise in pantry popularity! We love a good pantry at LIV for Interiors and like many, we took to re-organising our kitchen drawers (and our wardrobes too!) when lockdown began. With people now making fewer trips to the supermarkets, embracing home deliveries and cooking up a storm, space to store food for the week has never been so important.

Space to Host

With home cooking and entertaining guests on the rise, it’s likely we’ll see homeowners demand more from their kitchens. They’ll want easy access to cooking essentials with sociable spaces where they can cook and chat to visitors. They’ll also need large dining tables to ensure guests are suitably spread out.

Serene Spaces

Many of us have been seeking peace during this time. Anxiety and emotions have been running high, so we expect to see homeowners decorate their interiors in calming muted shades with organic rustic touches to ensure their homes provide peace and tranquillity. Indoor / Outdoor Living

Gardens have never been so important – they’re a space to meet with friends at a distance, a place to pop out for a quick alfresco lunch when on a work break, or a spot to relax with a glass of wine on a Friday evening - and we know that those of us without them have craved that accessible fresh air. We therefore expect to see garden design take off, with people creating beautiful social spaces with plenty of plants to decorate their outdoor areas. Bi-fold or sliding doors will be a great addition to the home, adding plenty of natural light and greenery for the perfect mix of indoor/outdoor living.

A Home That Delivers

Ultimately, homeowners will desire a home that delivers. From home bars, cinemas, pools, spas, gyms and even tennis courts, a multi-functional home will be at the top of everyone’s wish list.
